radiator fan

Yesterday I have noticed that my '06 xt660x radiator fan motor is not working and the rotor of the el. motor is hardly rotating by help of the hand. After dismantling it, found that water somehow (through connection cable most likely) penetrate inside the fan motor causing corrosion of internal housing and both ball bearings to seize. That won't be a problem to repair, but with jammed rotor and applied voltage to rotor collector, current passing through carbon brushes was too high thus producing excessive heat which caused carbon brushes plastic guide/holder to melt down and deformed itself. 7.5A fan fuse did not blow-out as current did not reach the value of fuse melting-down, I presume. So new radiator fan I'm looking to buy. I have found some alternative ones but all are not of suitable degree of IP protection to manage outdoor operation.
Will try at local yamaha dealer ......

bye :)

Not good news.

May be this seller will sell you the fan by it's self.

i have seen similar cooling fans used by pc shops to build into hardware boxes for pc's...not sure about the outdoor ip protection though..

Indeed there are many cheap PC fans available that run from 12v which would probably be the correct size (around 120mm I guess) with some modification, however I don't think they would like the outdoor conditions very much.

I am after the plastic radiator guard/grill, so if you do end up having to buy the whole shebang I may be up for taking this off your hands.

Good luck, Harry
