New Rear Shock
I'll be picking my bike up from Nitron in Oxford this saturday. They've had it to build a new shock for me, and also to have the details for their database.
Not heard of Nitron? Not surprising, they are a small company, mainly building suspension for the racing car world. They've been branching into bikes for the last couple of years and build a very high quality product. Cheaper than Ohlins, and Wilbers, yet with a product just as good. If you're bothered about that sort thing; they're made in Britain too. Anyway, a sneaky tease pic. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...s/CIMG2721.jpg Just another option to those looking to upgrade. Their website is here- http://nitron.co.uk/products_bikes.htm |
Is this going to stop you sliding down the road ... :083:
I get the Hyperpro fitted tomorrow, it will be interesting to see what, if any difference there is between the new unit you have and the upgrade path I took. |
Who knows about the sliding malarkey ;)
Immediate advantages to me are being able to adjust hi and low speed compression damping, and rebound adjustment. Plus a wider range of preload adjustment and a spring set up for my weight. Oh and it's serviceable as well, unlike the OE Sachs item. Next up are the forks...though my contacts are taking their time. Harumph. And yes, the exhaust is still being worked on... |
Brill! that means nitron will have the ball park setup for us now.. coool
ps does it come with ride hieght adjustment as well as preload? and whats your rider wieght (so I can see if they need to re-spring /valve for my lardness when the temptation kicks in) Only downside I can see is the spring colour being girly turquoise, suppose if you ask them nicely they may have alternatives like white (to avoid the ohlins wannabe link). |
I didn't ask about the ride height adjustment, but I think it comes with all their shocks. I'm 95kg all kitted up; they said they had to increase the spring weight by 15% over the OE shock.
Girly turquoise matches my eyes dahling ;) but they also do a black spring if you wanted. Annoyingly I can't get there until sat to ride the damn thing!! |
Looks very nice, it fits my blue ten :D
Im also looking for some upgrades. But im still wondering about whether i will notice the change. You can't test it, and its quite an expensive item. Though im really intrested in the advantage of better handling. Is this part easy to fit yourself? or should you be a mechanic? How much will it cost to get it installed? |
Well the OE shock was so borked that the bike would try to stand upright when you got off and put it on the stand. It would fade within 30miles of two up riding and feel like wet lettuce.
The prices on Nitron's site are for 3 different specs of shock; road, track and race. All are fittable by home mechanic as long as you have a basic mechanical knowledge. I'll report back on how I find it, but I am expecting to be impressed. |
looking forward to some reviews

120 miles back home today, first impressions are very positive. With only one negative; the front now feels crap! Ha!
The back of the bike feels very planted and no longer has the soft feel of the rear playing catch up with the rest of the bike. Very happy. |
I too am impressed with the Hyperpro rear, same well planted feeling - although the downside is it has caused my legs to shrink! The whole bike feels taller now, I guess there was alot of Dynamic sag in the rear that has now gone!
If I managed to egt these bl00dy Crimbo lights up today I might even take her out for a spin to get some real feel. |
