corrosion

I bought my 660x in september and use it every day rain or shine but am having serious trouble with corrosion and would be interested to here if anyone else has experienced any trouble with this as mine is now going through a warranty claim

My bike is a 2006 bike, and the engine looks like it's 20 years old. Very very poor quality paint.

It has to be poor paint under your extreme conditions.

My bikes is 2 years old & the engine still looks brand new & I ride mine every day rain or sun shine.

I wouldn't call the conditions here "extreme", but I assume you don't get any salt and grid etc on the roads in winter.
I think it is very poor. Compare it to my mates KTMs, and the engine of my bike looks very tatty. They ride it in the same conditions, and follow similar cleaning etc.
The paint on the engine started to bubble at around 2 years, from then onwards, there was nothing to do about it. I clean the bike and the paint just flakes off.
I think I'll have to get somebody to re-paint the engine after this winter if I decide to keep the bike. I don't really think that's exceptable for a 3/4 year old bike.
It's a shame really because I think it's a very reliable bike, but the build quality is in places inferior to the competitors. I wouldn't have mind spending a few more quid for a bit thicker paint and silly things like decent hose clips so they don't just "fall off".

I hope Yamaha get their act together when they release a bike competing with the 990SM ... keeps dreaming ;)

engine paint

i bought my XTR new from jt's in swansea.i've done 4000 miles on her. So far i've had the clocks changed under warranty.i've been waiting 4 about 6 months 4 them 2 sort out the engine paint.the oil feeder pipes have rusted already..i finally had enough and took it back 2 the shop and left it there.the front wheel is rusting and the o rings on the chain r splitting.i'm going 2 give them a ring on monday and give them a month 2 get it sorted.trading standards have been informed and told me 2 take it back.the ******s told me its 2 do with yamaha.what a load of ********.i'll b taking them 2 court if its not done.this is my 2nd new bike from them and it's my last.i'm not the only 1 with problems with JT MORGANS of swansea.i've not used the bike 4 a month.
