Avon Distanzia For The Tenere
I dont need tyres yet but done some reading up on whats best (currently on Michelin Siracs). If I am honest 95% of the time I will be on road so I am going for a road biased tyre. I have decided to go for the Avon Distanzia as they do the correct sizes.
I know this tyre from previous XTX's. Its very very good and would be ideal I think for the Tenere. Anyone else tried them on the Tenere? |
not that I know but Motonacio has them on his XTR which are same size as the Tenners :106:
|
I had them on the XTR and they where good, but could be a bit slippy sometimes in the wet. Apart from that once they are worn in they grip like nothing else when in the dry which i can voch for as i was able to get my panniers down with them on...... twice

Yes I fitted a pair recently and no problems, apart from not being able to greenlane when the whim takes me.
I had been running tkc 80s so have to readjust to losing a bit of front end grip on muddy rural lanes with the Distanzias. Better than the Tourance which I never trusted completely. Got mine from roundandblack on ebay for about 120 delivered and the rear was a ****** to fit. |

Tony :violin::violin:you are such a tart, the distanzia on the Tenere and XT660R look exactly the same as those for the XTX only difference is the front tyre a bit thinner and a bit larger in diameter.
get back in your "shumacher seicento" lol haha |

Heres a piccy of one on my XTR at Snetterton, did a 2.5k mile england trip mostly fully loaded then another 4k odd miles on the rear, but squared off so had to change.
Also they make good water paddles!!!! http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...5/PIC_0387.jpg |

Well my Distanzias have arrived from Busters and I will be getting them fitted on Saturday. :icon_bounce: Had a play with suspension settings and after setting them initially to soft I have ramped up the settings alot stiffer and it has made a good difference overall. Rear is set ar 6 of 9 and the fronts almost at maximum.
Just got to set the pressures on the Avons up and hopefully happy days. |

Got the tyres fitted today and took it for a run to see how it handles. Its an improvement on road for sure so I took it on some fire road tracks local to myself as well. I took the footpeg rubbers off first.
One thing I noticed is the bike feels really fat when standing up. To me it feels too heavy to be a serious off roader but it soaked up the terrain well when out of the saddle. Not to sure on anything harder than that with these tyres on but then I did know the Distanzias are 90% on 10% off road tyres. Stopped to take a few snaps. An Avon Distanzias update?
Tony, is there any chance of a six month update on your satisfaction (or otherwise) of the Avon Distanzias? I will be after a new set of tyres after the distances of the Summer riding season (as opposed to just Winter commuting).
|
Interested too, was running a front on my ttr with a gripster rear and found them a great combo.
Yeah I think the Tenere is slightly fat around the front of the saddle, pitty Yamaha didnt sculpt the tank seat meeting point in just a bit as it would make a massive improvement for feel off road. |
well got my rear distanzia from M&P
looks great more tread depth than I thought it would have. just got back from a short belgium tour can't fault it great tyre great price just hope it can last 5 K Miles and it will be a winner will probably take off for the winter and switch to swedish army tyre or similar :tazdevil: |
