eOK this has probably all been said before I know........
First chance to ride the bike since fitting the DNA st 2 and fuel mod - I was wondering if it would improve the pull at low revs - ie less than 3000rpm. For me I don't think so - I think this fits in with the torque and power curves that you can find on this site. The improvements in torque and power comes above this point I believe. The general feel of the engine feels smoother at all revs and once the revs climb thats when I felt a big imporovement - yeeeha. I love the improvement in the 3000-6000rpm range - much more eager to get on with it and probably handy for those sticky moments which everybody gets at sometime when getting an overtake slightly wrong. As I mentioned else where I have the 14th sprocket fitted as well - what a good combination of mods!!!!!! |
Question for Kev.
I was thinking of mounting the mod on the dash so I could adjust it while riding. For that to be possible I would have to extend the wires. Is it ok to do that or is it a bad idea? |

If they fit a new loom they will have to remove the fuel mod from the old loom & fit it to the new loom.

XT660Z Air and Fuel Mods
Hi I have just bought a 2011 660 and wondered if the filter and other mods discussed are an improvement for this model, do you need to change exhaust at the same time. I have done 500 miles but plan a 6 week trip in August.

Hello All, warm welcome to everyone on this forum in my first post :-) I have buy '09 Tenere from member of this forum, and she's got Kev mod, Leo's, K&N and snorkel cut out. Now i'm thinking about getting Stage 3 DNA filter. Question now - is Kev mod will be enough for stage 3 or this will require PC and custom map?

Blue knob is fine for a stage 3 air filter, just follow the installation instructions that came with the mod & it will tell you where the setting should be for the stage 3 air filter.

Hmm, i don't have the installation instructions as fuel mod was fitted to the bike when i bought it and previous owner didn't give me these instructions. Can i download this from somewhere?

Is it just me... who's not the best at fiddly jobs, but after getting my kevmod I have wipped off the seat and side cover popped out the o2 sensor but its so tight just under the tank I cant see how Im supposed to cut a wire and bear the ends enough to fit into the connector block.... does the tank need to come off??? Or can the tank be lifted at the rear ??

with a lot of fiddling I was able to do it without removing the tank. but because of the difficult access it was hard to properly connect all the wires. after a couple of weeks they came loose. so I ended up removing the tank and doing it properly.

You can follow the wire to the ECU & do it there, look at the colour of the wire & there should only be one wire of the same thickness & colour code at the ECU. If I had a Zd I would take a photo for you.
Can someone post a clear photo of the ECU's wires & I will show you which one to cut & fit the mod to. |

Hey Wide, if you had braved the weather on Saturday I could have showed you how to do it and my fabulous mod for the DNA filter!
You could also have taken the opportunity to see my new MTC can, Magadan soft panniers an various other mods! It was a bit moist and I don't really blame you. Camp site flooded out and spent the night on a floor in a small room!. Better than swimming! Perhaps another time. SteveD |

OK so today, the mod was fittedI managed to get the O2 sensor out enough by rethreading it as best I could. I also undone the rear tank bolts, then removed the indicator and tank grey plastics, this showed me 2 huge mounting bolts for the front of the tank... with these undone it allowed me to pull the tank up a good few inches and give my hands some good space.
Cut the wire and fitted the mod, turned it straight to 5 ish position. So the run I went on felt definately perkier.... not perhaps the transformation I had expected, but did feel like it was quicker in the low gears. Part of its feeling is the extra sucking noise it seem to make with high flowing air filters, which can give a feeling there is more power. I had expected it to be similar to my DRZ when I fitted a scorpion can and removed its snorkel.... which when I did it turned the bike from fairly flaccid to wheelying from open throttle. It didnt seem as dramatic as this. Would I be wondering... as today was cold, I think maybe 4/5deg C that the 5 o clock posn is all wrong ??? And also although the exhaust is popping a bit more, the main factor in stiffling what power the bike has is due to a restrictive exhaust with cats, and therefore changing this with air filter and kev mod will see the greatest fun gains ??? I do point out that I am not dissapointed, but maybe expected a bigger differance!! |

Hi being a newbie I would like to do the AIS block and Kevs fuel mod. Have read some of the threads on this site but they spread to 112 pages! I have a Haynes manual coming in the post to help with the AIS block but not sure how to proceed with the fuel mod. Do I need to buy bits from this site? Also I have posted a note about my noisy engine, it maybe normal as I have no previous experience of this engine. I had a F650GS which was much quieter and smoother. The noise occurs constantly when on the gas in 3, 4 and top gear. Stops when off the gas. Sounds to me like valve gear whine at top end but could be gears? Any XTZ owners in Kent I could visit so they can test ride my bike?

Got all the dna stage filters and lv cans fitted. Anyway, the temp has finally dipped below thirty degrees so i thought i would adjust the fuel mod, as i had previously read that the settings differ according to temp.
However, others have reported significant gains with the mod, but i only really noticed very negligible gains with this mod in the off position, compared to when set to any other position, furthermore, the gains were so small i could in no way tell which point to set the dial. The way i tested was to lock the throttle at 5000rpm whilst in neutral and then just play with the dial. There was a indeed a difference between on and off. Clearly indicated on the rpm meter thingy dingy. And besides that when set to all the way left the engine seemed to raw but cannot be sure if i imagined that. I changed the dial when riding that was totally beyond my sensibilities. This may well be down to the fact i never go over 90km. I ve had the mod fitted about six months and to be honest i felt the same way when i bought it. But did nt want to post on the forum through fear of offending or i was expecting too much. So basically any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Am i right in Saying that for someone like me who rides slowly, mainly because i have to but i have gotten used to it. That the o2 sensor would make more... Sense. Ps thanks guys i get hours of enjoyment from reading through all your experiences. |
The Fuel mod corrects a lean A/f ratio, the difference between the mod been turned off & fully adjusted is approx. 1 to 2HP, I made the mod so it can not be over adjusted & can only adjust in a safe A/F range, as in the past I had riders over fuelling the motor which cause problems so I had to re-design the fuel mod.
A fuel mod including a Power Commander is used to correct the A/F ratio it is not a performance mod, performance mods is usually hardware like DNA filters & pipes which make the bike run leaner, then a fuel mod is needed to correct the lean A/F ratio to get the best results from fitting the hardware mods. The O2 controller mod is there to give you better throttle control, to reduce the surging when on the cruise, allows the ride to ride slower in the same gear. |
Thank you for quick reply, so the fuel mod basically allows the rider to get the most from any after market performance modifications, conversely, i had always looked at it completely the opposite to that. Regarding the settings, the higher the dial the greater air mixture and possible performance benefit.
By the way just ordered an o2 controller. I ve read everyones opinion and its just what i need. |

95% of riders think a Power Commander or fuel mod is performance device, in real life they don't show any great performance gains, they are there to protect your motor & to make sure the A/F ratio is set so you get the optimum performance from the intake & exhaust mods you added or correct the A/F ratio on a standard bike for optimum performance. |
A couple of weeks ago, i received post from Germany & Australia. My kevmod en stage 1&2 dna filters had arrived! Installation of the parts was easy, and didn't took long. I turned the mod at 4 o clock, and went for a test drive. Nice engine sound now, and the bike feels a lot more alive at higher revs. I am happy with the results, now i am curieus if it takes more mpg...

After 20 kilometers: Big smile :thumbsup[1]:on my face. I notice a better gasresponse at higher revs. Smooth and stable driving under 3000 rpm. Overall worth the money. I only need to see what the modification does to the tires:toothy10: and fuelconsumption. But that will become clear this weekend in Germany after 3 days in the Westerwald. I will report after this weekend. |
Mods have arrived.
Co2 & fuel mod has arrived, many thanks Kev, I have just fitted the Yamaha Akrapovic to the bike so iam going to fit my mods in stages. Co2 mod all plugged in and to be honest the bike has changed, nice on tick over, revs cleaner and very little popping, will ride it tomorrow then fit the fuel mod. Filters will be ordered next week then fitted.
