Blown a seal (Not an Eskimo)
 

Blown a fork seal. Rode up a log staircase for about half a mile and at the top there was oil on the leg. The book said I need a tool to hold the thinggy a long way down before the bolt can be undone or tightened up. :support:

Got a good workshop and mechanical ability. What hammer do I use, big or small? :devil[1]:

Loosen nut on top of the fork tube before removing, do not remove the nut.

Remove the fork complete, leave the fork assembled, turn it upside down, get a second person to compress the fork then use a Air Gun on the Allen key bolt at the bottom of the fork leg, 9 times out of 10 it will come apart, slide the top & bottom parts apart. Change the seal, insert fork tube back into the leg & compress, tighten Allen key bolt by hand.

Turn fork tube to normal position, remove nut & spring, full with fork oil to correct height. Worth well mod for the XTX is to go to 15W fork oil.

Also, I'd advice that when you get the allen bolt out and get the leg apart that when the nut that goes onto the allen bolt comes out, that you use an old socket or something similar to make up a special tool to hold the nut.

I've changed for seals on a couple of bikes and always found that they had a funky shaped nut on the inside.

Or, as an old motorbike mechanic told me, can use a broom stick and just hamme it into the nut, voila, instant socket! :BaseballHat_LNY2EG:

I have changed fork seals before but on British bikes. From your comments and the drawings it looks like a similar job. I have a long T bar I made a few years ago which may help but it has to come apart first.
