Jofama bag - soft
Is this bag suitable for xtz? What do you think?. I can't get exact dimensions from jofama.
http://www.jofama.se/motorcycle_wear...ucts/bag_b.jpg Bag Practical luggage roll, suitable for most bikes. Attachment with straps. Large, central compartment. Separate compartments at both ends and three other separate compartments outside, all adjustable in size with straps.

I'm sure you could make it fit quite easily, as it looks
very similar to the Giant Loop -

Today I noticed that plastic exhaust covers are very very hot. It was about 32C here. Can I put this bag directly on the exhaust covers or do I need metal racks? What do you think?
|
I think a lot of people on here have run throwover panniers resting on the plastic exhaust shrouds without any problems. Personally I haven't, as I don't have that type of luggage, but I can't see a problem.
|
I use throw over panniers (kindly donated by my mate who forgot I'd borrowed them!) but I wouldn't fancy letting them rest on the plastic exhaust covers. For one thing I reckon they would rub and make a hell of a mess nevermind melting.
I fitted the yamaha top luggage bars (in case I can ever afford the side cases!) but they do prevent the throw over panniers from touching the exhaust covers and in the event of an off road spill they provide a bit of protection to the exhausts. |
Just to add, I found a UK stockist too-
http://www.skinscafe.co.uk/shoppages/luggage.html I'm a bit tempted as I do love luggage. I'm aware I have issues.

Have to check out Skins cafe looks good and only a nice ride away

Let me know if you can try the bag for size on your bike stu, and snap some pics if you can.

On the subject of luggage.....
I wasn't going to post about these until I'd used them in anger, but I'm sure my opinion wont change: I just picked up some 2nd hand, but unused Ortlieb Saddlebags and they appear to fit the Tenere perfectly: http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/m...ebPanniers.jpg http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/m...bPanniers1.jpg I rode back with them from Oxford on Sunday (2hr trip) and even though they were empty the didnt move at all. They have fixing straps front and back, the back one just loops round under the rear rack and the front ones I've attached to the passenger footrest supports. They're quoted as being 24ltr each and 100% waterproof, with a roll top opening. Plastic supports inside to hold the shape. you can get them from Hein gericke. They do rest on the plastic exhaust covers a little, but I didnt have any problem with the previous throw-overs I used. I don't think the covers get that hot?? You can easily rest the palm of your hand on the covers. Nick. |
Nick, on the specs for those you're supposed to leave a minimum space to the exhausts, but you obviously haven't... did they suffer any heat damage at all?

Sorry mate only just got your reply so no photo's The good news is the bag will fit fine The chap at the shop is very helpful he was quite happy to unwrap a new bag and show me. I had my topbox on and the bag easily fitted in front of it on the pillion perch. But it also sat on top of the topbox for two up touring. Obviously I didnt try it without the top box but it will fit no worries and looks like it will cope fine with the warm plastic exhaust covers. The shop man says he has loads of interest. The bag looks to be well made and is a really useful size. I may ditch my top box and get one myself. and a pair of trousers for the missus. On the shop itself it was great full of nice gear and the cafe is there too so pop in read a mag and have a drink. I had a fun ride there took just over an hour and followed loads of great lanes to end up at brackley. no map just followed my nose and was lucky with the weather. Popped into Brackley yamaha afterwards which was crap by comparison. |
Thats not a bad price for the big bag.
The exhaust on the Ten is covered by the plastic bits so doesn't get that hot. A bit of heat tape would sort out any worries though. My old oxford panniers rest on the plastic without any problems. Nick I run the straps for these (same as your Ortlieb) under the seat OK, gives a bit more security. |

Yes, the specs say 10cm away from an exhaust, but as the plastic cover is coving the exhaust and theres a heat sheild inside the plastic then I dont see a problem. The back of the pannier has a foam covering to stop any damage to side panels etc. There was no heat damage to the foam. It might get slowly worn away with heavy use I would guess?? Nick. |
Cheers for the reply Stu.
Nick, what are the other nylon/cordura 'pods' on your bike in front of and under the ortlieb bags? |
Quote:
Tom, They are some cordura bags from a rucksack, they zip open. On one side I have a tool kit on the other a tyre kit. (Contents are inside drybags) I did have them fixed up front originally, but moved them to sit above the passenger footpeg supports. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/m...09/ToolBag.jpg http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/m...9/ToolBag1.jpg (Note to self - Clean your bloody bike!! ) Nick. |
Thanks for the reply Nick, I didn't even notice the smaller packs you've fitted.
I saw the ortlieb panniers and thought they would give me some cargo capacity, but then saw the warnings and I didn't fancy putting it to the test myself. |

What about inner waterproof bags? Did you check them? |
Sorry didnt look inside they looked pretty sturdy. I didnt realise that they had inner bags.:viking:
