suspension upgrade
Like my former bike, the XT600E '03, which I had upgraded with Hyperpro springs front&back, my Tenere also got this upgrade at the last service(17.500km, this was a 20.000km service, prior to my vacation). Progressive springs at the front(and forkoil), one progressive spring at the back(shock stays original). I've done about 4.000km's since then and I must say, it's a big improvement: more smooth and better direct handling, much more control. The original setup was a bit soft to my liking and with experience of my XT600E I changed to the Hyperpro setup, fully adjusted to my riding-style(almost always with panniers, lots of backroads, mountains and highways, occasional offroad), my weight. I've done different kinds of roads to sse what it does: winding and twisty backroads&roundabouts, bad roads(Belgium!) with potholes, highways, bit of gravelroads(no hardcore offroad, mind you) and it performs mighty fine! And as y'all know it already handled very good, but now even better!! So, highly recommended(and that all for no more then 300,- euro's), especially for riders who ride with panniers and passenger. Thanks for that Hans, as said before, I had good experiences with Hyperpro on my Capo. If you have the removed OE spring could you please measure the i.d. and the static length for me? I have an Ohlins rear spring spare and am tempted to fit it.

Just ordered my new springs for front and rear, Cant wait for them to arrive. Also ordered a sealey bike lift and spring compressin Kit so i can get it all done at home. I do love seeing the DHL van arrive always means some goodies inside.:lol:

Yep, much less divin' and mucho better control, especially in cornering on twisty roads and curves.

Calsport got back to me and said that because the springs were new they couldnt see them on their system. Fair enough!
Anyway �80 for front springs �180 for complete spring kit. One question though Dallas, do the front springs give the same travel as standard? I may just order the front springs as its the dive I want to reduce and the rear feels ok to me. Plus �100 saving.:unibrow: |
Yep, same travel as standard, but the springs are harder/stiffer(progressively wound) and comes with forkoil. Go for it, ya won't regret it!

It would be nice to know the spring weights. What weight oil did they come with? I'm wondering if changing the oil to 15w will have the desired effect for me. |

Two more turns of preload into front fork springs seems to be a bit better, I will give it a try for a bit and see how I get on.

changing these fork springs and doing the fork oil. is this DIY'able ? never done before.

Yup, it's DIYable. You'll need a steel rule or a measuring jug for the oil, and someway of keeping the bike stable whilst you drop the forks out.

I see you guys have good experience with Hyperpro on roads. You used them to reduce dive.
I have no problems with that. But I need to improve suspension for offroad, better "eating" rough terrain, more grip and handling on bad gravel. Will Hyperpro progressive spring do the job here? Please for some information, i am afraid to buy the "wrong" stuff. |

Even in deep ruts the bike still stay's focused, more than the rider! However you can upset the bike, but this is more due to the weight heigh up that can put you off balance. On fast gravel the bike is awesum! never feels like it's going to slip of slid. On road they are a huge improvement, no chicken strips on my TCK's.... Hope this helps. |

Hyperpro spring kit for Yamaha Tenere
Hey guys, I have now tested the springs all right.
Firstly i did not find it much better, then I played around the settings and now the difference is there. The bike is stiffer, and still eats the rough terrain on high speeds. There is more handling also. And there is less dive when braking. I must say it is an improving on all areas and it worth the money. But dont expect too much and totally different stuff. It still isnt like original KTM Adventure original WP or something like that. Only thing I would recomend: before buying it, firstly try to adjust the original suspension. If there is still not enough for you, then buy it. Now I dont have anymore back pain, but I am not sure if this is because of different springs, or I am just in better condition. |
Well, I finally got around to changing the fork springs with Hyperpro ones. I am well pleased, about 30% stiffer and much less diving under braking. But the most pleasant surprise was that the tenere now does stoppies:toothy12:, real high ones and very controlled. I also put in the Kev mod, so now it does stoppies AND it wheelies (small ones, but still).
I might as well sell the Hypermotard.:laughing7: |
