Rear brake mod
I hacked off the end from a brake pedal of a honda xl600 and welded it to the rear brake pedal of the tenere (well my friend did, but it was my idea):toothy10:

Nice job! And you are right -Yamaha should have done this from the outset. They made the gear lever spring loaded so why not the brake pedal??
The more i live with my Ten the more i think the mighty 'Y' just paid lip service to the whole 'overlander thing'. Where did they do most of the test riding? Surbiton high street? |
i was just thinking about how to do a bendy brake lever the other day actually, right after i dropped the fuggin thing and bent my brake lever....
Nice job fella. |
very nice indeed. Have to get me a xl600 brake pedal asap!
|
Proper job.
Cue a rush on XL600 brake pedals on ebay! What are those pegs? Is it the standard peg with the rubber hoiked out? |
I would like to know where you got that little plate on the engine cover, just behing the brake lever, and what you call it. I want one

@rudiedj: the little plate is as standard and I think is glued on, maybe you can get it at Yamaha. |
That plate desappeared from my bike. Yes, it's only glued.
Nice job with the brake pedal! |
The old XT600s had folding brake leveres too if you want to stick to Yamaha stuff !:icon_cyclops_ani:
Probably have one for sale soon but its attached to my '86 XT600Z ! |
My XT600 came out with a straight brake pedal just like the Tenere has. Replaced it with a later model XT600E bendable brake pedal after an off bending it back onto itself until it rested ontop of the footpeg.
I also now have a brake snake fitted. |
whats a brake snake??

Hi Graham
P'haps I should PM this but anyway ! Chinese bike got me back from Spain in four days- no problems at all , not even a bulb , Pyrenees were great sold that today http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...r/dirtpro6.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...r/dirtpro4.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...r/dirtpro7.jpg But am now tempted by a Ducati Multistrada .........:happy8: - er yes I know , I know but with a bit of financial work it might be ok - ish . So was considering selling the Tenere - havent put your spokes in yet though - my bike ownership is not the most stable I know :angry7: Still think a "freshly made" ie "new" old Tenere might be a better long term (as if I'd know!) bet than the 2008+ Tenere as far as "bush repairs" etc are concerned .Old Tenere is much easier to wheel around etc ( or maybe just not so worried about dropping it ?) but haven't put it on the scales yet. Xt660Z was 217kg on my scales - more than my old 750 Elefant. Going to do some work on my Ten tomorrow - change fork oil etc and rear tyre/spokes and will make a decision afterwards - maybe ! Have you tracked a Tenere down yet Graham ?! - if not I think you'd be best off buying my old one at an advantageous rate and then spending half the cost of a new Ten at Dave Lambeth getting it prepped ! Will let you know where things head next ! cheers |
Bloody hell Ian youve now got the Multi strada....
Just how many bikes have you owned... This year? It must be like a chop shop round your house! Actually I have looked at the Multistrada but not a bike I'd green-lane. probably going to end up getting 3200ish for my bike (2400 depreciation in 29000 miles and 3 years) But I have no idea where to put that cash at the moment. Looking at all the New Teneres being brought and quickly sold on it would appear that it is a very specific bike to live with. I am holding out until August when I will be in the right place to buy, but we'll see. Cheers and PMing you as well. G |

...no, really it is a little loop of wire that runs between the frame rail (typically) and the brake pedal, primarily to stop debris jamming between the pedal and engine, but also to stop it bending outwards and/or into a banana in the event of a crash... xxx |

Yes, it certainly seems to be a bit of a 'jack of all trades' and at least when the roads get a bit 'third world' it won't spell the end of the tour.
I'd love to see a 'long way round' thing done on the Tenere to see how it fares. The XT660R certainly stood up very well on the Himalaya thing which Bike magazine wrote about way back.. |
Hi Guy's.
You just need to ask JMo about the capabilities of the Tenere. Can't wait to read all about her adventure's in TBM Magazine later in the year. |
